Costa Rica
has emerged as a world class scuba diving destination. Its underwater
wonders cover coastal coral reefs and offshore islands. The water is
warm (75-85°F), and what surprises divers is the tremendous underwater
activity, thanks to high nutrient concentrations. The dive spots are
varied, and visibility ranges from 10-40 metres ( 30-120 feet).
The
abundance and variety of marine life off the coast of Quepos and Manuel
Antonio is impressive. Humpback whales, dolphins, reef sharks, Giant
Manta Rays, Mobula Rays, Sting Rays, Angel Fish, Moorish Idols,
Trumpet Fish, various types of eels ,octopus, turtles, groupers,
snappers, crustaceans, huge schools of Barracuda, jacks and much more.
Soft and hard coral formations are common but not as colourful or
abundant as some other areas of the world. It is the numbers and variety
of marine life that make this area special.
There are 12 islands offshore from Quespos and this provides a huge
number of dive sites. This
area
contains enough marine life for the most experienced of divers and for
snorkellers. Costa Rica is both a great place to learn how to scuba
dive, or for the experienced diver to get an excellent variety of deep
dives.
